Wednesday July 28th paddle, cook-out and August schediling meeting 

 

The Venice-Lemon Bay Kayakers will have a kayak trip with a launch time of 9:30am on Wednesday, July 28th, launching from the Caspersen Beach Park in Venice with a destination of Alligator Creek and waters in the area. The trip will be about 3 ½ hours in duration, 7 miles long, rated as intermediate and will be guided by Ken Pickering.

 

Following this paddle Merv will be working his magic with Italian Sausage and Dogs over the grill and the rest of us will bring a dish to pass and the beverage of our choice, followed by the August Scheduling Meeting.

 

 "Launch time of 9:30 a.m." means that you are in the water and are ready paddle. Please allow ample time for travel, unloading your kayaks, and preparing for the trip.

Facilities:  Parking is sand; the launch point is sand. There are full facilities at the Park. The launch area can get crowded so please plan to get in the water a little early.

 

Directions: From Hwy. 41 in South Venice turn west onto Hwy. 41 Businesses. After crossing the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) Bridge, get into the left lane and turn left (south) at the first traffic light on to Avenida Del Circo. Go to the stop sign at Airport Ave. and turn right (west); go to the stop sign at Harbor Dr. and turn left (south). Upon entering the Park, continue south until the road turns left (east) and transitions from asphalt to sand. Go across a short bridge and the launch point is to the left front. From North Venice, turn right off Hwy. 41 onto Hwy. 41 Business South. Cross the ICW Bridge, and turn right (west) onto Venice Ave. Follow Venice Ave. to Harbor Dr., turn left (south) onto Harbor Dr and follow the above directions. If approaching Venice southbound on I-75, take the SR 681 Exit south, connect to Hwy. 41 go south and follow the directions from North Venice.  If northbound on I-75, take exit 193, go south on Jacaranda Blvd, connect to Venice Ave, turn left on Venice Ave and go west, cross the ICW and continue to Harbor Dr., turn left (south) on Harbor Dr. and follow the above directions.

Saturday July 31st paddle

 The Venice-Lemon Bay Kayakers will have a kayak trip with a meeting (shuttle) time of 9:00 a.m. at the Brownville Park, north of Arcadia launching into the Peace River and paddling downstream with a destination of DeSoto Park in Arcadia.  The trip will be about 4 hours in duration, 9 miles long, rated intermediate, and will be guided by Carolyn Barszcz

 

"Shuttle time 9:00: All paddlers will meet at the Brownville Park launch site by 9:00am and unload boats and all equipment.  We will then shuttle “DRIVERS ONLY” to DeSoto Park and return in people haulers. (Van’s & SUV’s) Please allow ample time for travel, unloading your kayaks, and preparing for the trip.

 

Facilities:  Brownville Launch Point.  The ramp is concrete. The Park has restrooms, water, picnic tables, trashcans, BBQ grills, and a sandy parking area.

Arcadia Boat Ramp: The ramp is concrete with a sandy area adjacent; and the parking area sand. There are no facilities.

Directions:  If eastbound on Hwy. 72 from Sarasota go to the intersection with Hwy. 70 turn right (east), cross the river, and continue into Arcadia to the red/green light at Hwy 17 North (Brevard Ave) Turn left onto Hwy 17 north and drive for 6.3 miles to the intersection of Brownville St on your left.  Look for a small green sign that says Brownville followed shortly by a brown and white Brownville park sign on the right (east) side of Hwy 17. This is your turn.  Turn left (west) at a crossover and go about 1.5 miles on Brownville Street. On the left (south) side of the road will be a free standing white modular building surrounded by a chain link fence and a large brown and white sign to the Brownville Park. Turn left (south) into the park and follow the asphalt road to a “Y” intersection.  Turn right and curve around to the ramp. The road goes through a tent and RV campground so please drive carefully. 

 

If coming eastward on Hwy. 70 from the Bradenton area go past the intersection of Hwy. 72 cross the Peace River and follow the above

 

From the Port Charlotte/Punta Gorda area, go north on Hwy. 17 to Arcadia and from the intersection of Hwy 17 and 70 follow the above.
